Though robbed of interest the final : contest for the Davis Cup tr-as largely attended. The weather was warm. : McLaughlin won the first set from Wilding, who did not show form till the third set. The American played himself "to a -finish in the first twe sets, giving a display of beautiful tennis; Wilding then asserted himself, and the rest was easy. Scores, 3 — 6, 8—6,6—2,6—5. Brookes played against Long, and the latter had the Victorian going hard all through, but Brookes always hatUsomething left when the American ■; tired. ■ He started tho first set with a couple of games lead, and kept going strong till they were four all. Then Brookes won the next two. In the next set thei American w T on the first . three games, and with five all the Victorian added the next two, concluding the set. Long playedup splendidly and the score stood six all before he brokei away. The scores were, 6 — 4, 7—5, B—6.
