THE FUNERAL.

The funeral 6f iha late Mr Fedor [ Kelling took place yesterday, the interment, which was private, made at llanzau, where Mr Kelliug. settled in the early forties. In the absence from the district of the Lutheran clergyman, Pastor Hover,- the service* was taken by the Rev Canon Lucas, of All Saints, Nelson. The chief mourners were 1 the deceased's three sons, his^son-in-law, Mr J. M. Croucher, of Richmond, and his nephew, Mr F. A. Kelling, of Sarali, Upper Moutere. Messrs John Lankow and A. Wiesenhavern represented tho Lutheran congregation of St John, of which the deceased was -a, member since its formation.' Messrs D. Beuke knA Christian Schwasss two of the Lutheran trustees (of which body 31 r Kellrng Was far many years a member) assisted tine rehi-Sn-es as bearers. Each of the four Lutheran representatives named claims friendship with the deceased of more than half a century's duration. . Sever- ( el wreaths were sent by , friends, including one from the correspondence branch of the Government Insurance Department (with which the deceased's youngest son is nected}.A kindly tribute waa received from tho Prime Minister,- whose telegram of condolence was as follows: — "R. Kelling, Esq., Ranzau, Hope. — It is with much regret that I learn of the death of your dear father. In his demise there has passed away one who 1 led a busy public life, and there lias been severed one of the very few remaining links between the earliest political times of New Zealand and those of the present day. .Pray accept and convey to the members of , your family my deepest sympathy in | your great loss. — (Sgd) J. G. Ward."
