MILITARY SETTLERS. London, December 1.
The several Agents-General repiesenting the colonies met Lord Han is, Parliamentary Secretary of the War Department, Baron de Woirns, Undei- Secretary of the Colonies, and Mr Maxwell, of the War Office, to-day, with a view of discussing the propriety of conceding to pnvate soldiers desirous of emigrating the right to commute their pensions to their actuarial value like officers. The Agents-General were invited to express an opinion — ■ (i) Whether it is better to commute pension wholly or partially ; (2) whether the Colonial Governments would undertake the payment of the balance ; (3) whether the Colonial Governments would giant land. In reply, the agents faid land in the colonies was obtainable on easy terms, but they doubted if special grants would be made. They were, however, willing to refer the question to their respective Governments.
