FLINT'S BUSH.
_ 0. A meeting of the settlers in this district was held in the pchoolhouse, Flint's Bush, on Tuesday, 4th current, anent the rabbit question, the attendance was good. Mr Fullartou was called to the chair. Tbe Chairman briefly referred to what had been done in other districts, and especially in 'lie Invercargill Chamber of Commerce regarding this question. Mr Hamilton moved— "That this meeting entirely disapproves of tbe settlers in any way being rated for the extermination of rabbits." Mr Hamilton stated that he was quite certain the settlers in this district were quite able to keep the rabbits irom becoming too numerous on their own farms. He condemned very strongly the report ! given by the Eabbit Commissioners', and thought it bad a very injurious effect on the interests of this part' of the province, This resolution was carried unanimously. The next resolution proposed was — That this meeting strongly disapproves of the conduct of those members of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce who wished to have the petition in favor of taxation forwarded before the settlers had taken the matter into consideration, and heartily commends the action taken by Messrs Harvey, Perkins, and others on behalf of the settlers. The resolution was unanimously agreed to. Moved by Mr Hamilton, and seconded by Mr Charles McKenzie— That this meeting strongly approves of having the duty on ammunition reduced. This was unanimously agreed to. Moved by Mr Strang, and seconded by Mr Templeton— That this meeting is of opinion that every settler shouM be allowed to keep one dog free of tax. Mr Hamilton thought that if the dog tax was removed, dogs would become too numerous. He moved as an amendment—" That tbe dog tax be not removed." This was seconded by Mr Christie. The motion was carried by a large majority— only tbree voting for the amendment. Mr Hamilton reported that at a meeting held at Limestone Plains, on Monday night, resolutions disapproving of being rated for the extermination of rabbits were carried. Mr Fraser moved— That the foregoing resolutions be forwarded to Dr Hodgkinson as soon as possible, and that the said resolutions be embodied in a petition and circulated for signature in the district, and forwarded to Dr Hodgkinson for presentation to the House of Kepresentatives, and that this meeting requests Dr Hodg-kin.-on to give it his cordial support. Agreed to. Thereafter those present signed a petition in favor of a Southland Drainage Act,
