GUNBOATBustard, commander Tucker, has arrived, having picked up some ton of the crow of the brig Susan Douglas, reported some time ago as lost on the Island of Samasamrna, east coast of Formosa. In consequence of information received from Consul Swinehoe, the commander of the Bustard proceeded to search along the ea*t coast of that island, and discovered the missing portion of the crew in Black Eock Bay, on board a small fishing junk, where they had been for several weeks, and were found in a half-starved condition, and very much prostrated — excepting four Manila men, who -were ingoodhealth and were quite reconciled to their fate — these were not brought over to Amoy. — Friend of China, July 11. Coast Lights. — The Marllorovgh Press states that it is essential for the safety of vessels approaching Queen Charlotte Sound during the night, that a light should be placed on Cape Jackson, the northern headland, and another on Long Island, about four miles down the Sound. -As traffic increases on this part of the coast, a light in the French Pass will be found highly desirable, as, in a dark foggy night, the Pass ia extremely hazardous. A light for Cook's Straits is being erected on the island of Mana, but we fear this will be found of comparatively small service, the Brothers being a far more desirable site. This was rejected, however, on the ground of expense ; but while a good light on the Brothers would have served for the whole of the Straits for some years to come, a light on Mana will be comparatively useless to vessels coming from the southward ; and in running up into the Strait in a thick south-eastern, the assistance of a light to direct seamen is more needed than at any other time.
