Car and Engine Collide
Woodcocks Railway Crossing
A very lucky escape frond' serious injury was experienced by Mrs W. S. Henry, Kaipara Flats, and her twoyear old daughter, last Wednesday, when the sedan car which Mrs Henry was driving, collided with an engine drawing a north bound train. The collision occurred about mid day on the railway level crossing at Woodcocks, where, according to a recent decision of the Railways Department, it is proposed to erect a compulsory stop notice. The car's impact with the engine caused both the driver and child to be thrown violently forward, the hitter's head coming in contact with the glass windscreen, which was considerably shattered. The steering column and driving wheel in front of the driver were badly twisted. The main damage to the car was that forward of the windscreen, the front mudguards, radiator, engine, etc.,'being extensively damaged. It is understood that the only damage to the railway engine was a broken
oil pipe
Fortunately the two occupants of the car suffered only slight injuries consisting of scratches and severe
bruises.
