High School Cricket and Tennis
Visit of Helisnsville Teams
Last Wednesday, 9th April, the pupils of the secondary department of the Wark worth District Higb School had a most enjoyable day of cricket and tennis against teams from the Helensville District £ligh School, The matches were closed and interesting. Wark worth Won nine teunis matches against IJelensville's six, while Heleusville/won the cricketr The cup was retained by Helensville. The Warkwortii teams were without several fof their regular players owing to an outbreak of mumps. The most notable absentee; was the cricket captain, L. Hatftill.
The Helensville party arrived afc-11 o'clock and had to leave again by 3.30, /consequently the combined doubles tennis matches were abandoned and the cricket match whs coifßned to 50 minutes per side.
/'After the first series of .tennis■matches the Helensville teams were entertained to lunch at the Hi^h School by the Wark worth pupils. At the end of the lunch two senior Warkwortb pupils made short speeches of welcome to which Helensville pupils replied. Mr Percy r headmaster of the Wark worth District High School, expressed his plea« sure in welcoming the visitors. Mr Abel, the master in charge of the Helensville pupils, iv replying referred to the excellent spirit; that has always been evident in the matches between the two schools.
