The annual meeting was held in the Leigh Public Hall on Wednesday, March 19th, Mrs A. J ;< Matheson presiding. The roll call, "an antique article," produced some very rare specimens. The "golden thread" reading was given by Mrs Morley, "The Life of Florence Nightingale." The old committee were returned to office with the addition of Miss Rene Ashton. Mrs A. J. Matheson was elected president of a further term. The annual report was read by Mrs H. Torkington, The treasurer, Miss Ashton, read the balance sheet, which was very satisfactory. Miss Ashton and Miss Rene Ashton were elected delegates to the group meeting. Miss Ashton was chosen as delegate to the conference at Auckland. There was a further discussion on the flogging of criminals, it was decided to send a letter of protest to the Prime Minister. A great number of knitted articles have beeu iuade for Patriotic purposes, and parcels have been sent to our boys overseas. The result of the points competition was as follows:—Flowers, Mrs Rogers 1, Miss N. Evans 2, Mrs J. Duuniug 3; apple pie, Mrs J. Dunning 1, Miss Rene Ashton 2, Mrs M. Torkington 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs J. V. Wyatt aud Misses Ashton and N. Evans. The meeting was concluded by the singing of the ode aud a prayer for peace.
