SPRUCE OUTPUT NOW AWAY UP.
VANCOUVER, July 4. British Columbia is now producing and shipping more aeroplane spruce every month than was sent from this province from the time the war commenced light up to last November, when tho Imperial Munitions Board instituted its production department for aeronautical supplies here last. November. ' This statement was made by Major Austin C. Taylor, Director of the Department of Aeronautical Supplies. Mr. Taylor declined, for military reasons, to give any definite information as to the quantities now being shipped every month. He said, however, that a very large number of camps are operating throughout the northern part of the province, and that the production of aeroplane spruce has developed into an industry of imposing proportions. "It is a vital industry, too," he said. "The production of aeroplane spruce is one of tho moat vital necessities for the Allied armies m France to-day, and British Columbia is doing very well m that respect. The development, however, has only started. Of that I am confident. The men up north are working like Trojans. I want to say for them > that it is not a matter of remuneration that keeps them doing such 'great work. Every man up there regards his work as a duty, and considers that every stick he secures is helping the boys over at the front. Between the... time the war started and the time this production department was opened last November, a certain quantity of aeroplane spruce was secured here and sent out. We are now shipping every month as much as, or more, than we shipped during the whole of that time."
