H.M.S. SPEEDY SUNK.
. On Sunday his Excellency the Governor (Lord Liverpool) received the following cable message from Mr Lewis Harcourt, Secretary of State for the Colonies: "Steam drifter Limsdell and H.M.S. Speedy struck a mine off the east coast and sank. Casualties reported — six men missing and two injured. The Speedy was an old torpedo gunboat built m. 1893. Before the war sb,e was engaged m fishing protection duties. PAYING OUT MINES. LONDON, Sept. 1. The destruction of fishing vessels by striking mines m the North Sea is now almost a daily occurrence. With reference to the sinking of an Iceland trawler 25 miles off .Tyne, the Jpfficial Press Bureau declares that the mines ware paid out 26 miles off the Tyne not by warships but' by German trawlers, a considerable number apparently being engaged m this work. One trawler actually seen laying mines was A2O. It was at work off Emden.
