OPERA HOUSE PICTURES.
The new series presented by the Opera House management on, Saturday night met with, great success. The programme is a well-balanced one, and pleasing m every way. The star subjact, entitled "Wamba, a Child of the Jungle," ,is a remarkably fine production, and the producers must have gone' to considerable expense to get such a fine film. All the scenes are truly tropical, where the story ia supposed to take place. The story is heart-grip-ping. Wamba, a half -breed woman, and her Portuguese husband, Pete^ live near a jungle m British East Africa. Wamba's child falls sick, and she asks her inebriated husband to get Dr. ftace, the surgeon at the British trading post, some miles distant. Pete Tefuses, and' finally, when he is m a drunken stupor, j Wamba deserts him. She reaches the doctor's home, where she is kindly received, and after hearing of the brutality inflicted upon her by her husband, Dr. and Mts Bice decide to protect her by retaining hex m their household. The doctor is unable to save Wamba's child, and it dies. ( Pete discovers that his wife and child have disappeared, and track them through the jungle to the doctor's home. He attempts to drag Wamba away, but the doctor interferes, thus incurring the everlasting enmity of the treacherous' drunkard. Pete leaves the- house vowing vengeance, but lingextr m ita vicinity, and one day, when. Dr. and Mrs Bice visit a neigh- 1 boring settlement, he crawls behind the unsuspecting Wamba, hits, her on the head, knocking her- .unconscious, and abducts the doctor's child, Lillian. But, the little girl manages to escape through the jungle, followed closely by Pete. After escaping many tortuous deaths by; the ferooioua lions, she arrives at the edge of a high precipice. She turns and gees Pete close behind with a lion following him. The. next moment she throws herself oveT the precipice into the waters below, and swims to the other shore. Pete follows, but hides himself under an overhanging rock. Wamba regains consciousness, and takes the trail of the missing Lillian, whom she finds about to take refuge m a. hollow log from the lions. Wamba seizes her rifle, and begins shooting. The Bices return, and*discoyeTing that their daughter and Wamba are missing, form a possa and start m pursuit. Lillian and Wamba are found, and the posse then takes the trail to Pete's shack, whero they find all that remains of him after a conflict with the lions. The remainder of the programme is excellent, especially "Bunny Dips into Society," and incidentally does the "bunny hug." # This programme will be screened again this evening. __
