They ran pretty much in this order for six furlongs, when Roman Chief assumed the command, attended by Hendersyde, the Retreat colt, Pretty Correct, and Meilekh, with Theale now on their heels. The last-named was third to Roman Chief and Hendersyde entering the straight, and managed to split them inside the distance ; but the favourite continued to hold his own, and won by four lengths ; a neck between second and third. Meilekh was fourth, Merman fifth. Pretty Correct sixth, the Retreat colt seventh, and Kerrywise tailed off.
