Prom the Octobor number of the Internationa 1 Ohess Magazine, we take the following game* described by Sfceinitz as " highly interesting." It was played at the New Orleans Ohess Club last month. Stbinitz's Notes Condensed. (a) This counter attack is now considered of doubtful efficacy. At all events it has been proved long ago that the sally of the Q Kb P is premature at this juncture, and should at least be delayed until after castling. >b) An excellent rejoinder, which forces Black to advance another of his protecting unmoved Pawns on the X side. (c) 21 Qto B 2 was much stronger. If then 21 ... Pto Q 4 ; 22 B tks P, BtoK B 4 ; 23 Q to Q 2 and wins. (d) Best. If B tks P Black would still play B to X B 4, followed by Xt tks B, leading to exchanges unfavourable for the first player, (c) Only move to save the game. The play of both parties at this stage deserves the highest commendation. (/) Xt to Q 5 was the proper defence. < (g) If 29...Kt tks B;30R to X 7 eh, Xt tks R ; 31 Q tks P eh, and wins.
