MILK GRADING.
There is not , the unanimity there I should be in regard to the necessity « of grading milk for cheese making. '* A resolution asking the Government: make milk-grading compulsory was only carried by a majority of a few vites at a recent New Plymouth Conference. In reply to the Government's request for factory opinion j soine factories have expressed approval, but { quite a number of factories have re- 1 plied that they are against it. Conse- c quently, it looks as if the matter will j bp dropped. In view of the necessity of making a big effort to improve j cheese quality, it would seem neces sary that the matter of milk grading < should be made compulsory. Competition for supplies is .too keen in .some y districts to make} it safe for the more t progressive companies to adopt a grading system, while the other con- cerns can continue without a proper h Ph&ck on 1 nwlk quality.. s
