RISING IN HAWAAI.

News was received on the 19th inst. that a number of Hawaiian natives resisted an attempt to search the house of a prominent Koyalist for arms. They fired on the search party and killed Charles Cats, a member of the Legislature. The rising be-, came serious afterwards. The insurgents at first repelled the regulars, bat reinforcements were obtained and tha rebels were pursued into the brushwood, whore 500 were captured, 12 lulled, and many, wounded. It is admitted that the leaders of the outbreak were Nowlin, a colonel of the Queen's Guard, and Wilcox, the leader of the revolution in 1877. Another band of rebels were driven into:an impaste, where several were killed, *nd the capture of the rest is inevitable. The Queen has been placed under surveillance. Twentysix thousand Japanese are inclined to side with the Jtoyalists. Washington, January 22. Mr E. E. Hitt, the Bepnblican member for Illinois, introduced the question of this revolution in the Congress as an argument in favour of. an American cable aud the need for opposing concessions to anything English. j President Cleveland contends that the United States hay« no right to interfere with Hawaii, and he declined to protect any Americans who attempted to overthrow the existing Government. The Senate has ignored a motion similar to Mr Hitt'e, and also one in favour of the' annexation o£ Hawaii. London, January 22. The Hawaiian Envoy in London declares that the rising is suppressed. The discussion in Congress over the outoreak in Hawaii was rather excited, owing to a report that a British steamer conveyed wms for the use of the insurgents. Mr jLodge asserted that Great Britain was trying to establish a supremacy over the islands. - January 23. The United States Government has ordered j, cruiser to Honolulu.
