(By Cable— From "N.Z. Troth's" Special Sydney Representatire.) MEW ZEALAND'S best lightweight, Charlie Purdy, met his master *^ on Saturday night at the Stadium. Ernie Izzard, of England, outboxed, outsped and outhit him in practically every round of the fifteen. When the pair met before they fought a draw. It was Izzard's first contest in Australia, and his first match in five months. Purdy's aggressiveness held him even on that occasion, but after the match Ernie said he would leave nothing to doubt next time. He made good his boast and handled Purdy as the New Zealander has never been handled here before. It was strange to see Charlie beaten to it with left leads and stranger still to see him tied in knots at close quarters. Izzard did all this, and more. He kept the ruby flowing from Purdy's nose all through and thoroughly earned the decision in one of the cleverest bouts witnessed in Sydney. On Friday Lachie McDonald defends his middleweight title against Gordon Kiely, of Melbourne. In the, previous match, Kiely won the decision after fifteen two minute rounds, but Lachie expects to triumph in three minute sessions that the championship match calls for.
