TO-DAY'S TARANAKI CUP
Can Te Monanui Do The Trick MINOR EVENTS DISCUSSED (From "Truth's" Taranaki Representative.) Taranaki acceptances are m order for opening day (to-day), and good racing seems assured. 3
The Hawera victors, San Fera, Koauau and Bustler, will be most m demand for the Waitara Hurdles. San Fera is a promising sort, while Bustler is on the improve. Among the- lightweights, Mountain Bell had a race, over them at Egmont. Should Oration start m the Juvenile he would be the elect. In his absence the northern, Letter of Credit, on his third to Arpent and Victory Bond at Trentham, should account for the other Taranaki lot seen out at Egmont. The Flying is tricky, with Pelham a fit horse, though Le Choucas and Oration are on the improve as sprinters. Ring the Bell (if started) always does best "first up." Te Monanui has not started since he ran second m the Wellington Cup. with 61b. less. He met with interference that day and should be favorite at New Plymouth. Surveyor and Town Bank may be the dangerous ones. If the pace is more solid than m the Egmont Cup, Star Ranger must always be considered. On his good second m the Nolan Cup, Mint Leaf looks a fair proposition for the Okato Hack. No Response, Lady Anstruther and Curraghmore all stay on fairly well. J. T. Jamieson's elect (Daylight or Ring the Bell) may be sought after m the Welter. iiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiHiiiiniiimiiimiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
They are both partial to the distance thought Bright Day and The Lamb are not overburdened m the class. Irapuka put m a dab at Egmont which makes him out a possibility any day. Glengariff is a hack with prospects. .At her. best Horomea is nicely placed m the Timaru Hack. Argue showed a lot of pace out m front m one race at Egmont; Curraghmore, Willow -wai and Glengariff are all m the right class if re- served. In the Motorua Hack most of those j engaged have been tried and found wanting.. If Cocoanut looks all right she would probably be favorite, though she was reported suffering- from internal troubles some little time back. On her best form she should have 1 an easy job at five furlongs. White Fang, however, is one engaged J with a quiet x-eputation for some speed. The second day is Saturday when the Taranaki Stakes is set down for decision.
