To the general" public, he is best . known as the nuggetty little chap, with an abnormally long stride, who plays on the wing for 'Varsity and the Wellington reps, at .Rugby football. As a hurdle runner he has had some distinction too, and has had the honor of running second to the great H. E. Wilson m a New Zealand championship over the 440 course. The hurdles of examinations he appears to have taken with the same confidence and celerity, for a long string of academic achievements at, Waitaki, Canterbury College, and the Victoria Cpllege, leave hinv--an L.L.M., a Jacob Joseph scholarship holder, and a barrister and solicitor — and that at 23! '
