A MISTAKE ABOUT MURPHY.
William Murphy, alias Tyler, was i charged with stealing nine bob from '•'the person of an old man, Charles Arthur <Glazebrook. Bill, represented by Mr. A. B. Sievwright, said "not guilty." Old man Glazebrook, who is a retired army captain and a well-knowrt identity m the city, described how & man whom, he identified as accused, intro- ducecl himself to him m the bar of the Pier Hotel. Later witness reckoned, the same bloke followed him to the back of the pubbeisy, held his wrists with one hand and this time it was his hand he Introduced into witness's pocket and robbed him of nine bob's worth of small change and then cleared 1 out. Demon Tricklebank was then summoned and witness pointed out accused as the thief. Frank Smith reckoned he saw the X Capting rush after accused and grab him, but the old chappie got shaken off. The xaccused then bolted and bumped Into witness as he was doing it. He was sure accused was the man. But the jury wasn't. After an hour's retirement they found "Murph" not guilty, and he .was discharged.
