CHRISTCHURCH SPORTS CLUB.

Annual General Meeting. There was something of a breeze apparent at the annual general m«t- Ing of the Chrlstchurch Snorts Club last week when a member perpendlcularised himself to question tho action of the Committee m appointing a secretary m place of Mr. Ficnhols. who recently resigned. Tho rules -distinctly stated that that ofllcer must bo elected at the annual general meeting and the weaker contended that m otherwise electing the scribe the Committee had flagrantly banged the constitution of tho club to tho boundary. The chairman (Mr. .1. Molr) poured oil on the troubled waters by Haying that Mr. 1-Menhols's departure for Australla had been somewhat sudden and Mr Hornlbrook had contented to tak.« on the job only until a new see. could be found. The new man wan therefore? dug up and installed as soon a» possible. The action of the Committee wan eventually endorsed. The annual report and balance-sheet revealed a mat© of affairs which speaks volumes for the "sporting ginger" shown by the late secretary, Mr. Flcn- hols. Unlike tho previous season, tho 1913 operations had shown a remark- able Improvement, the Club having j started the season with a debit of £78 and finished up with a credit balance of £12 J2«. Six nights' competitions had been carried out during the soaaon and tho Club wtis well represented at the N.SS. championship meeting, although no laurels wore annexed. The report concluded with n big boost for tho late secretary and tho oft repeated remarks that the Club was m

great need of a permanent hall m which competitions could be regularly held. The following officers were elected for the 1914 season: President, Dr. "W. Simpson; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. Woledge and C. W. Reid medical oflij cers, Drs. W. Simpson, M. Louisson, H. T. J. Thacker, G. Westenra and J. P. Whetter; honorary auditor, Mr. F. Graham, jun.; honorary secretary, Mr. H. B. Gould; committee, Messrs. E. Nordon, T. Robson, D. Guiney, F. A. Hornibrook, A. Dickson, F. Graham, jun., and W. G. Atack. Mr. F. A. Hornibrook was accorded a vote of thanks for acting as hon. sec. after Mr. Fienhols's resignation.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a process for automatically extracting text from scanned pages. OCR enables searching of large quantities of full-text data, but it is not 100% accurate. The level of accuracy depends on the print quality of the original newspaper and its condition at the time of microfilming. Newspapers with poor quality paper, small print, mixed fonts, multiple column layouts or damaged pages may have poor OCR accuracy.

The page where this item appears has an estimated OCR accuracy of 89.07%.
