MY BELOVED.
I found Him in the mountain cave's recesses, An Infant, resting on His Mother's knee, And lo ! amidst her tenderest caresses. His little Face inclined with love to me. . I saw Himi stand amid the Ten pie's sages, Inflamed with zeal His Father's- work to do ; He seemed to gaze down "through the corning ages, Yearning to lead my spirit upward too. From desert wastes His silent" prayer ascended, With pleading love and reverence Divine, He prayed for me : methought when night was ended His gentle eyes looked sweetly into mine. And ever through the sweet and bitter stages Of those three years when He conversed, with men," My life was present like the printed pages Of some dear book ; and Jesus lo,ved me then. Loved me in spite" of failures oft repeated, Of childish waywardness "and projects vain ; And willed that I should near' His Heart-be seated, Drawing therefrom sweet solace in each pain. But when the Cross pressed on Has bleeding siho'ulders, And brutal soldiers urged Him on His way Over rough paths, whose sharp, vindictive boulders Wounded His Feet, He loved me most that day. When, on the glorious Resurrection morning, He came forth, Conqueror of death and sAn, Celestial light' His Sacred Heart adorning, - I know He kept a place for me therein. And in the Tabernacle where reposes. This King of Kings, this Lord of jlife and death, He thinks of me'; O, I will gather roses Of love, to please Him by- their fragrant "breath. -
