Tie first Association football test match Wffi-een Australia and New Zealand representative teams was played at. the Carisbrooko Ground to-day, and attracted a large crowd of about 10,000. A light drizzling rain made the ground greasy, and both teams were at full strength, and were as follows: — Australia.—Goal, Cartwright; backs, D. Currberford and Fisher; halves, Doyle, ghenton, and Gibbs; forward, Thompson, Waid. Maunder, J\ Cumberford. and Dane. New Zealand. —G-oul ; Claxton : backs, Braithwaite and McCauley ; halves, Brownlee, Corbett, and Jones; forwards,Briudell, Knott, Cook, Campbell, ;md Ballard. Mr. M. Thomley was the referee. New Zesiland won the toss, and Australia kicled off. New Zealand immediately sot tip i hot attack. Campbell sent nicely 'to Ballard who sent across three fine centres. Cook missed a chance from one, Fisher Reared another, and Knott fielded, and rapped in a nico shot, which Cartwnght ir coal handled safely. Australia, broke ivwmv and Thompson got well down to be called back by the linesman's flag. Jones drcntved in a nice high shot, which the vis tors' goalkeeper cleared capably. Visitors Attack a* Olosa.
Tbo visitors retaliated with a spirited attack. Dane and Thompson on the oppoiat« wirgs making useful advances, but, with the exception of a shot from Cumber■'onl, the New. Zealand goalkeeper was not iierbaslv taxed, the visitors' finishing efforts Ving disappointing. A tricky run by Thompson required a timely header by 3'Aithwaite to clear. Interviewed after the match, the Australian manage? said : " We can only congratulate New Zealand on their win, which they descrred on the day's play."
