POLL ON AMALGAMATION. VALIDITY IN QUESTION. £BT TZLBPJIAJPH'—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Thursday. The Frankton Borough Council considered the position regarding the poll recently taken on the amalgamation of the borough with Hamilton. The solicitor ,advised that he knew of no irregularity affecting the poll, but the Government's power is discretionary, and no doubt it would consider all the circumstances. One councillor reported that a petition was being largely signed against amalgamation. The Mayor said he considered the fairest course would be to take another poll on a'parged roll, as many bad w voted, without qualification. Eventually it was decided that a petition be presented to the Governor- inCouncil in accordance with the Act, and that an outside competent man investigate th.9 accounts of the two boroughs, and report as to the advantages or otherwise of Frankton amalgamating with Hamilton.
