AUCKLAND COURSING CLUB'S JUNE MEETING.

The first day's sport in connection with the Auckland Coursing Club's June gathering was brought to a successful issue at the Club's Plumpton Ground, Avondale, yesterday, when the initial rounds of the Great Northern Challenge Stake came up for decision. There were a large number of enthusiasts present, including several visitors from the South, and throughout a very lively interest was evinced in the gathering. The general arrangements and conduct of the meeting were in the capable hands of the secretary, Mr. H. H. Hayr, who carried out the duties pertaining to his office in a highly satisfac. Tory manner, in the execution of which, he was most ably seconded by a competent committee. ' Tho judging, in the hands of /Mr. James Barr, found favour in all quarters, as did also the slipping by Mr. ' Fergusson, who, a3 caretaker, is also to be complimented on the excellent state in which he had the deciding ground. The hares were strong gallopers, and led their canine pursuers may a lively dance, only five kills resulting during the afternoon. The greatest surprise of the day was the downfall of Mr. W. Profit's well-known dog Lizzie Godfrey, she beiug beaten by Mr. J. Ligar's Storm Fiend in the first round. The Southern dog was a pronounced favourite for the Challenge Stake, a fact that was no doubt due in a great measure to the fine form shown by her on the Avondale Plumpr.on, and her more recent performance at Dunediu, where she played a prominent part in one of the big stakes in first-class company. The following are the results :—
