GOVERNMENT NOTICE. T WILLIAM SPAIN,' a Commissioner appointed for investigating and deter- mining Titles and Claims to Land in the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby give Notice, that I shall proceed to investigate the under-mentioned Claims in the Port Nichol- son District," at my Office, situate in Manners Street, Te Aro Flat, in Wellington, on the 16th day of May, 1842, and following days, at eleven o'clock in the forenoon. All parties interested are hereby summoned to be in' attendance with their witnesses, and they will be required to produce before me all original Deeds and Translations thereof, relating- to their Claims, with attested copies of the same, the latter to be left with me. The Claimants are reminded, that the fee of £5 must be paid to me before the investi- gation of any Claim, or of any opposition to, it. Case No. 49 John Cregoe Brown and Robert Campbell, of Sydney, merchants, clai- mants in part. 16,000, sixteen thousand acres, more or less, being all that piece or parcel of laud in the Northern Island of New Zealand, situate on the rivers Piimu, Cokovitta, and Rungapiko; boun- ded by the river Puinu on the south-south-cast, on the Avest by the river Rungapiko; on the south-south-west by the river Kokowitta the names of the said land being Titewa, Tuwera- wera, Tuoloti, Paratoua, Wito Witu-ununga- poie Warrabaro, the name of the whole being Parakiahua. Alleged to have purchased in December, 1839, from the Native Chief, John Towack, by Messrs. John Jones' and Francis Owen Lea- thart, who have disposed of their interest in the above land to the claimants. Consideration, not stated. Nature of conveyance Deed of Feoffment to the original purchasers, dated 23rd Decem- ber, 1839. Case No. 70 (a.) Daniel Cooper, of the City of London, Merchant, James Holt, of Sydney, Merchant, and William Barnard Rhodes, of Sydney, Master Mariner, claimants, All that tract of land known as Jiitry Island or Capiti, -situated in Cook's Straits, New Zea- land. (Extent not stated.) Allegedtd have been purchased by the claim- ants, on the 31st October, 1839, from llobulla, llangeiata, Echo, Tuma Eaheao, Oki llangihero. Consideration cash to the amount of jCIOO sterling. Nature of conveyance Deed of Feoffment, of the above date, in favour of claimants. Case No. 70 (c.) Daniel Cooper, of London, Merchant, James Holt, of Sydney, Merchant, and William Barnard Rhodes, of Sydnay, Master Mariner, claimants. All that tract" of land in the Northern Island, New Zealand; bounded on the west by 'the waters of Cook's, Straits, commencing at the mouth or entrance of the Waihonai River (Kapiti bearing N.W. by N., and W. by S. iS. magnet); thence in a northerly direction along the coast, to the entrance of the Otakie River, and from thence turning to the eastward along the banks of the Otakie on the north by the seid river to its source, or to the termination of an easterly line 40 miles into the interior from the entrance of the Otakie thence turning south parallel with the west coast, until it meets a line running easterly 30 miles from the aforesaid mouth of the Waikanai opposite Kapiti; and on the south by the Waikanai to its source, or an easterly line 40 miles from the mouth of the said river, (Contents not stated.) Alleged' to have been purchased in November, 1839, by the claimants, from the Native Chiefs Aready and Tuanini. Consideration merchandise to the amount of £150 sterling. Nature of conveyance Deed of Feoffment in favour of claimants, dated sth November, 1839. Case No. 72, William Cooper and William Hay, both of Sydney, claimants. All that land on the south-west side of the Parara River, extending six mile s south-east from Robulla's Pier, and two miles inland south-east, or howsoever otherwise the said land & premises or any part thereof is bounded, situate, known, or distinguished! (Contents not stated.) Alleged to' have been purchased from Ringa Ako or Eko, chief of the tribe of Carfrea. Consideration merchandize, value not stated. Nature of conveyance Deed to claimants, dated 10th of October, 1839. Case No. 90. Thomas Evans, of Sydney, Master Mariner, claimant. A piece of land on Capiti or Entry Island, and known by the name of Rangetara or lloup- poras Point, the northern boundary commencing at a deep valley to the north side of the said point, in which valley there is a run of water; and bounded on the south of the said point from a small point as marked iby the said chiefs andbounded'on the east and on the west by Cook's Straits. (Contents on stated.) Alleged to have been purchased .by the claimant, in October, 1839, from the Native cliiefß Rouppora and Rangietta. Consideration merchandize to the amount of £100 sterling. Nature of conveyance not stated. Case No. 90 (a) Thomas Evans, of Sydney, Master Mariner, claimant. A rock or small island in Cook's Straits,^ New Zealand, knownby the native name Mutu Ral- lalah, and by the European name of llangi Eroa's Island. (Contents not siated.)
