A Press Association wire from Christchurch says that Oripps and Jim Griffin will meet in Christchurch on 24th August for tho light heavyweight championship of Australia. The Wanganui district mooting of Oddfellows, held at Feilding yesterday, adopted a motion permitting women to become members of the Lodges,-— Press Association wire. Tho City Council last night resolved, by five votes to four, that a light fence be erected along the St. Vincent-street ditch, and also along the ditch in Vanguard-street from the Hardy-street corner to the old Anchor Boot Factory. Mr A. S. Field, of Fairbrook, Belgrove, brought to Nolson this morning a valuablo stud ram and ewes~*from " Tasmania. The sheep have been bred by tho well-known breeder S. N. Wellard, of Foreett, Tasmania. The sire of the ram was bred by A. B. Mansell, and was leased for one season for ono hundred guineas. Reference was made at last night's Council meeting to the state of tne Recks Road. The Mayor expressed the opinion that the Council should put the road in order and then hand it back to the Waimea County Council. The Engineer informed the Council that he was tarrying out repairs to the road.z A return presented to the City Council last night showed that £621 lis 9d had been paid by the Council for carting during the past six months. Cr. Adams, who had asked for the return, moved that the Works Committee take into . consideration the question of the purchase of a traction plant for general haulage purposes. The motion was carried.
