Mr. J. Roberts, Secretary N.Z. Alliance of Labour, who is now in Christchurch in attendance at the N.Z. Waterside Workers' Conference, has effectively replied to a statement In the local "Press" alleged to have emanated from Greymouth to the effect that the Alliance was "ensuring as far as possible that no. levies be struck by unions within the scopa of their organisations." This Mr. Roberts emphatically denies. He stated that several unions affiliated to the Alliance had at the request of that organisation, struck levies to help the miners on the Coast. In fact he said, nearly £1,000 had been for warded by the .miners to those men. and the- statement that Mr. P. O'Rourke was not doing anything to assist the. miner. , ? was altogether wrong.
