N.S.W. LABOR DISSENSION

The dispute between 8 ' Premier Dooley and Mr. McGirr of the N.S.W. Labor Part y turns on the point as to whether the elections should be postponed or not, and has been decided in the former's favour.

Mr. Dooley held that the life of the Government depended on its capacity '.to get a Nationalist (Tory) to take the Speakership, in_. which case the Labor Party would have a majority of one. He said he refused to crawl to his opponents for his majority and would not hold power in those humiliating circumstances.

On the other hand Mr. McGirr contended that the elections should be put back until a clean roll had been compiled and his bill providing for Motherhood Endowment had been forced on to the Statute Book.

This Bill stipulates thalt where the income of the parents is in -excess of the living wage, plus an addition of 6/- for each child above two; no payment will be made ;but ?where the income and the added money do not reach the amount provided for, the difference i s to be made up. Payments are not to be made in respect of children ,not maintained by the parents.

In the event o£ the mother dying,-payments may b6 made, to an approved person. Payments will be made to meet the Cases of whose mother is dead or who are not being maintained by the mother who are th§ of ont ©tf mare clilidrtn, provided th«ir in<»m*s 4° -*9*- •W***' , V •pWHWK re««rr*d to, §f# w r<ic*lv<s $/- a la reepeqi td eacU <sliild, tern widow will laelude averted vrlym or a woman wfeoae hu*frMid f» incin»«c-itated from wotkw*fo7*to*k or «a«»--tal dUftMlity or Is li»gff*«fttMMU

About the computer-generated text

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a process for automatically extracting text from scanned pages. OCR enables searching of large quantities of full-text data, but it is not 100% accurate. The level of accuracy depends on the print quality of the original newspaper and its condition at the time of microfilming. Newspapers with poor quality paper, small print, mixed fonts, multiple column layouts or damaged pages may have poor OCR accuracy.

The page where this item appears has an estimated OCR accuracy of 97.95%.
