Townsend has received from the Labor Department at luvercargill tho following reply, 21/./21, to a comnlaint that the conditions of the Otago and Southland Threshing Mill Workers' award were not De.n rt observed -by Hood's mill at Balfour:— An inspector of this Department has made enquiries relative to yom- complaint, and was informed by Mr.Hood hat tie intended, paying iia /J 1( ?n 1/10 nor hour He contended that he was unaware of the provisionsi of tne new award providing for payment of wa.es and bonus of 1/11. per horn HJ expressed his willingness to pay tho men tho latter wage as from the -3th Sen? the date the award came into opeiStion, when he nays his men m about two weeks' time. It agPearb. that two of his men, namely, H. Mc- Manus and J.
