rate of wages, presumes to speak on behalf of organised labor." The Otago "Daily Times," which printed Mr. Boreham's scurrilous attack on Mr. Paul under attractive headlines, gave the foregoing resolution an obscure position and with no headline whatever. SEAMEN'S UNION. At Port Chalmers diinctilty in obtaining dock and stokehold crews for two transports ivas experienced last week. The men, before they would agree to shjn on, wanted a 20 per , cent, bonus, a week's holiday, a free railway pass to their homes on arrival in England, and the payment of onehalf c.f their wages when they reached England. Tho men wci'; advised by tho Union Executive ia to sign nn under ordinary cotnliiioir, with the exception of half-payment of wages, as a refusal to do so was a breach of agreement with the Defence Department. The trouble was settled on this basis.
