German Socialists on Peace Terms
Herr Hoch, a member of the German Reichstag, has lately published in tho "Neuie Zeit," the theoretical organ of tho German Social Deemocrats, "an eccount of tho demands that will be brought forward at the next session of tho Reichstag by the. German Socialists, and it has been published apparently with the consent of the Govern ment.
"Wo-must,"Jie says, "allow all other nations tho same freedom and equal rights as we claim for ourselves. Such a peace is no defeat and no humiliation for , any nation; as tho independence of each of them remains intact, and,as eacli of thorn assures us thatlit is fighting solely for this object. Such a peace is really a victory for all nations. . . . A durable arid fruitful peace can only be achieved under the following conditions: No conquests; no violation or subjection of any nation; free competition of all nations in foreign, countries; and understanding for a peaceful solution of' disputes between, governments. Such a peace corresponds so well to tho interests of tho bulk of the nations in every country that it ought to be possible, even now, immediately."
