Australia's Unemployed
The following table shows tho extent of unemployment in the various industries throughout the Commonwealth at March 31st, as recorded by reporting unions:—
In all, 461 organisations forwarded reburus, the largest number being from
118 unions in New South Wales, with 98,870 members, and from Viet>ru with 117 unions and 79,761 menbors. The following table discloses vbo di , groe of unemployment in cuch Bur«, as well as the comparative percentage for December, 191 >> -
The above figures show that the increaee ednce the preceding quarter in the percentage unemployed is greatest in Queensland (1.9), followed by New South Walee (1.6), South Australia a decrease in Western Australia (O.S), (0.6), and Victoria (6.3) There is and-in Tasmania (0.2)., The increase in New South Wales is fairly general in all industries, but is most marked in engineering, clothing, building, and mining and quarrying. jln Victoria the chief increases were in I wood and furniture, and building, while decreases occurred in engineering and other manufacturing trades.
