Wellington Employers and the City Elections.
Wellington harbors a hole-and-corner organisation called the Greater Wellington League or some equally highsounding title. This body, we are led to believe, has 152 members drawn from tho Big Business element of the Empire City. Last week this group of parasites held a meeting to discuss the. City Council elections. There, were just 35 members present, but since they were all "sound" the number is not at: all to be f.neeml at. Solemnly and with due. formality it was decided-to choose from the illustrious 3*> a "ticket" for tho forthcoming municipal elections. Eventually, after no than six second ballots —about every person present standing for office and plumping for himself —a team wns chosen. In addition to them, Mes_sr:>. Atkinson, Frost, Trevor and MeKenzio (sitting councillors) were endorsed. It is stated that councillors like Messrs. Fletcher, Fitzgerald, Barber and Godber were rejected as being too advanced. "With £600 subscribed by the 15 members of the. combination, these standard-bearers of snobbery and shnrkdoin expect to make, a hup* splash and raise such a din that the majority of the voters of tho city will be mesmerised and in a moment of mental aberration vote tho ticket.
