A WHITE AUSTRALIA.
Mr Wateon'e Remarks.
Concerning The Sugar Industry. Press Association—Copyright. Brisbane, Yesterday. Mr Watson, speaking to the toast of the Federal Parliament at a function connected with his Federal tour, said that bo hoped the people of Cairns, in common with others interested in the Sugar industry, would make an organised : ana systematic .effort to bring it up with white labour. He was glad to find there was a prospeot of carrying on tho industry by white labour. If it was proved there was not sufficient labour to be got, under reasonable conditions, he was qnite willing to listen to any proposition giving the 'cane farmers that labour which was essential to their success. When tho present bounty was fixed he had thought that the period of its operation would be sufficient, but he had now come to the conclusion that, in the interests of Queensland and Australia, they v/ero just fied in continuing the bonus for a further term of years.
