FIRE BRIGADE BILL.

Diplomatic Sir Joseph.

(Per Press Association.)

' Dunedin, Last Night. A deputation from the Fire Brigades* Association waited on Sir J. G. Ward this'evening to urge that a draft of the Fire Brigades' Bill, approved of by the Fire Brigades' Conference, should be taken in hand by the Government and, passed into law next session. Sir Joseph, in reply, referred to the strong feeling shown against th* Bill last session. Ho thought the Government would do its best to get the Bill through this session. He did not see why the evidence now obtained should not be regarded as sufficient without going over the ground again. He thought the commonsense of the House would lead it to tbe same conclusion. He strongly favoured the Bill in the interests of the Fire • Brigades and country districts. Some system was required and he would convey to his colleague Mr Carroll the opinions expressed by the deputation and ask him to submit the matter at the earliest moment to Cabinet.

About the computer-generated text

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a process for automatically extracting text from scanned pages. OCR enables searching of large quantities of full-text data, but it is not 100% accurate. The level of accuracy depends on the print quality of the original newspaper and its condition at the time of microfilming. Newspapers with poor quality paper, small print, mixed fonts, multiple column layouts or damaged pages may have poor OCR accuracy.

The page where this item appears has an estimated OCR accuracy of 98.58%.
