THE OPERA HOUSE SITE.

At its meeting this evening tho Borough Council will discuss the matter of the site cf tho Ooera House, the question beirg-rtvivod by a notice of motion by Cr Copeland. From what we learn there is a strong probability of the former decision arrived at by the Council being adhered to, and in that case the work of ejecting the building on tbe old pound site will be proceeded with at once. As there is no provision

by which a poll of the ratepayers can be taken on the choice of sites, the Mayor does not intend to adopt this course, but if anything in this direction is desired by the Council a plebiscite might betaken by means of circulars sent to each ratepayer. The councillors will, however, prefe? to.settle tbe mattsr themsalves, and in that event the decision should not be long delayed.

About the computer-generated text

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a process for automatically extracting text from scanned pages. OCR enables searching of large quantities of full-text data, but it is not 100% accurate. The level of accuracy depends on the print quality of the original newspaper and its condition at the time of microfilming. Newspapers with poor quality paper, small print, mixed fonts, multiple column layouts or damaged pages may have poor OCR accuracy.

The page where this item appears has an estimated OCR accuracy of 98.74%.
