The late Sir John McKenzie.

At the meeting of the committee of the A. and P. Society on Saturday last, Mr Wilson moved that a letter of condolence be forwarded to Lady McKenzie from the Society expressing sympathy with her and her family in the great loss they have sustained by the death of the late Sir John McKenzie. Mr Wilson said that since the last meeting Sir John McKenzie'a death had taken place and he thought it would not be right to let this occasion pass without taking notice of ii. Sir John McKenzie was the first Minister of Agriculture who had taken any real interest in his department. He had started the agricultural department, and every one must acknowledge that ii had been of great service to the farming community. Mr Wilson said he had been a comrade of Sir John's«in Parliament for 15 or 16 year—entering politics at the same time—and was on very friendly terma with him daring the whole time, and he felt sure that although tbey were on opposite sides of the House, Sir John was a man who had always acted with that honesty of purpose which was of so much consequence in public life. Sir John McKenzie never did anything in public life unless he believed it was in the best interests of his fellow colonists.

The motion was seconded by Mr Stuckey and carried.
