Manawatu Brass Band.
Tb.£ half-yearly meeting of the Manawatu Brass Band was held last evening in the Provincial Hotel. A smoke concert was also held in conjunction with the meeting, an excellent repast being provided by Host Wilrnot. The report submitted by tho secretary congratulated the Band upon being in a most satisfactory position, having progressed very considerably during the past six months. The present membership was thirty-two bandsmen and the report made eulogistic reference to the manner in which they had progressed under the conductorship of Bandmaster I Downey. The balance-sheet showed the net profits for the half-year to be £2 ss, while an amount of £5 was outstanding in members' subscriptions. After the formal business had been transacted the following toast list was proceeded with, Mr W oodfield. president, occupying the head of the table :—"The King and Queen " ; " The Manawatu Brass Band," proposed by Mr O. Louisson ; " The President and vice-. Presidents," by Mr P. Downey ; " The host and hostess," Mr L. Wischnewsky, and irhe " Palmerston !N. Brass Band." The proceedings were enjoyable, songs being rendered by the majority of those present. During tho course of tho speeches warm thanks was expressed by fhe officers of the band to fcho president ami Mi' Wilmot for aasiatj.ncc rendered n the past.
