A Rival to Jute.
Ax apparently well-authenticated report, which appears in a Tiflis journal, describes the discovery of a plant which if it possesses all the qualities attributed to it. threatens to become a powerful rival of jute. To what special genus the plant be]jngs i« not .t.ited, but M. Bracken burg; a chemist, who discovered it growing abundautly on the shores of the Caspian, has given it the name of kanoff." The plant possesses a splendid fiore, soft and elastic with a glossy, satia like texture. It is sir ng and pliable, and can be dyed without injury. M.
