BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tha ordinary meeting of the Blen* heim 'Borough Council was held last nMit. There were present:.- His Worship the Miiyor (Mr J. J. Coiry), Councillors E. S. Parker, W. D. Pike, V. Birch, A. Curry, B. J. Cooke, YV. R Gascoigne, J. A. Leslie, and M. McKensue. A resolution of condolence was passed for communication to the relatives of Rifleman J. W. Brunning, who, had recently made the supreme sacrifice. . . ~ A tribute was p.'ud by the Mayor to the memory of the late Mr J. H. Redwood, and a resolution was passed, expressing the sympathy of the Council with his relatives. COAL SUPPLIES. The Town Clerk read lengthy correspondence that had passed between the- Mayor and the Hon. A. M. Myers, Minister for Munitions and Supplies, in reference to the local grievance regarding the coal supplies. In a number of letters the Mayor represented the dissatisfaction that existed on account of the insufficiency, high cost, nnd poor -quality of the allowance, and the Minister replied to each communication in detail. The Minister wrote that every effort would be made to satisfy the needs of the district. Councillor Curry moved that the representations that had been made--1o the Government be approved and that tho Mayor and the Town Clerk be thanked for the thoroughness with which they had gone into the matter. Councillor Cooke said that the Mayor and Town Clerk deserved the appreciation of not only the. townspeople, but also the residents of the country. So far as quantity was concerned, the supply had greatly improved as a result of their efforts. GENERAL.
It ivas lesolved.that a circular resolution from the Hastings Borough Council urging on the Government tho desirability of interning enemy aliens be- received. Councillor Curry reiterated his sentitnents on the subject and expressed his opinion that the resolution shoxild bo endorsed. The Council gave its (support to tlie resolution of the New Plymouth Borough Council urging that the decision not to hold the municipal conference this year be reversed. Mr Burt, Glenhope, wrote soliciting tho interest of the Coiincil'for the project of bridging the Hope River and improving tho line of road from Hope Junction to Howard Junction, as a part of the rout© from Blenheim to Nelson via Tophouse.—Tho action of the Mayor in writing to Mr Burt assuring him of tho Council's willingness to continue the agitation for tho prosecution of this work was approved. A number of routine matters wero dealt with in the report from various committees.
