Waimea Plains Ploughing Match Association.

'. The annual meeting of this Association i was held in Geo's Hotel, Biversdalo, on Saturday evening. Thero wero about a ■ dozen gentlemen present, Mr W. Hall (president of the Association) presiding. [ Tho balance-sheet, as under, was adopted , as read : — heceipts. To Overdue subscriptions collected

The Secretary explained that the balancesheet was made up as at 31st August, 1895, and since that date ho had been unable to get any further subscriptions in, so that their actual deficiency was £ 5 12s Cd. — (Mr Hall became responsible afterwards for a subscription of £1, which made the debt £4 12s 6d.) Considerable discussion took place as to whether defaulting members in respect to unpaid subscriptions and members' tickets should be written to. The Chairman explained that of course last year's deficiency must be arranged before they could entertain the question of this year's match. Thore were overdue subscriptions, etc., which, if forthcoming, would put the Association iv credit, and he really thought that when people put their names to a subscription list they were in honor bound responsible for tho amount promised. Several other speakers endorsed Mr Hall's remarks. Eventually, Messrs W. Hall and Daniel McKay became guarantors for the debt of £4 12a Gd, it being understood that should any of the overdue amounts come in they be refunded to the said guarantors. — A vote of thanks to the donors was accorded for their liberal support. The question as to whether there should be a match this year or not was freely discussed. A motion that there be no match was lost by five to two votes, and Messrs Be;id and McCutcheon's amendment that there be a match was carried. The following office-bearers were then elected : — President, Mr Jas. Patterson (Waimea); vice-presidents, Messrs V. A. Donald, W. Hall, and J. Pollock ; committee, Messrs A. Zeid, A. Stewart, W. Aitken was reappointed secretary, and a vote of thanks was accorded him for past services. Mr Hall said that although the secretary had been voted honorariums, ho very seldom | got them, and he hopod- that Mr Aitken would get some remuneration this year. Messrs A. Reid, W. Hall, J. Stevenson (jun.), Jas. Hamilton, and the secretary were appointed a Ground Committee to select a suitable paddock and report to a meeting of the General Committee, to be held on the 27th inst. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a process for automatically extracting text from scanned pages. OCR enables searching of large quantities of full-text data, but it is not 100% accurate. The level of accuracy depends on the print quality of the original newspaper and its condition at the time of microfilming. Newspapers with poor quality paper, small print, mixed fonts, multiple column layouts or damaged pages may have poor OCR accuracy.
