BALL AT SOUTH GLENKENICH.
Tho bachelors of South Glenkenich held their first ball on Thursday, Oct. 4, in Mr J. S heed's barn, which he kindly lent for the occasion. Not only the barn. but the house also, was thrown open far the use of the guests during the evening. The bam was tastefully decorated with evergreens for the occasion by the Misses Sheed. The weather was all that could oe desired, and tho result was that a large number oame from far and near to rip the light fantastic too, over 30 couples being present. Dancing started at 8 30 p.m., and was kept up with vigor till 11.20, when refreshments were i -anded round by the bachelors, who •vers indefatigable in their efforts to make ihe ball a success. There were a large uumber of single ladies present for the bachelors to choose from also a good uumber of married ones, noticeable amongst whom were Mrs E. Boag, Mrs Sheed, Mrs H. Mclntyre, Mrs E. McDonald, Mrs Cruickshanks, Mrs Brownlie and Mrs Barr. During the evening songs were, sung by Messrs 4. Cullen and Smith, a hornpipe danced by Mr Cruickshanks and a jig by Mr A. Cullon. Dancing was kept up with great vig<r till 315 a.m., when refreshments were once more handed round, wbich brought to a close one of the most successful .-•atlierings that erer was held in tho district. Mr D. Tclfer made an efficient M.3., and the music (violin) was supplied gratuitously by Mr F. Cullen, assisted by Messrs Crawford, Cruickshanks and Aitken. A word of praise is due to Mr McFarlane, of Gore; who catered for the ball. The refreshments supplied by him were simply first-class. Spectator. an— a—
