• Fbidat, 7th April. The monthly meeting of the Board at Invercargill was attended by Messrs D. L. Matheson, E. McNab, G. McLeod, G. Froggatt, G. Lumsden, J. W. Bain, A. Baldey, T. Mac Gibbon and J. Mackintosh. Mr G-. Froggatt having been appointed chairman for the ensuing year, Mr McNab said lie thought they might improve upon the regulation that each chairman should have to resign his position at the end of the year. When they made a rule of taking the chair by seniority they in his opinion did away with what honor attached to the office, j He thought they were wrong to take the position of chairman turn about, and he considered it would be far better if the chairman retained his position for more than a year. — Mr Baldey, the mover of the vote of thanks to Mr Matheson, the retiring chairman, thought it very bad taste on Mr McNab's part to bring up such a rigmarole, and he considered that he had made use of his motion to do so. — Mr McFab said Mr Baldey was the last man who should accuse anyone of giving a rigmarole. — Mr Froggatt having returned thanks the matter dropped. The vote of thanks accorded to the retiring chairman for his services was duly acknowledged by that gentleman. The following appointments were made : — Fernhills, Joseph H. Gray, bead teacher ; Dipton, Jane M. Scott, mis* tress ; Waikawa Fallß, Esau Fisher, head teacher ; Otatara Bush, Christina Bidlands, pupil teacher, subject to the concurrence of the head teacher. The following amongst other tenders were accepted : — Mandeville, residence, J. P. Peterson, Ll5B 10s; Wendon Valley, residence, A. P. Schmidt, L 122. The Wendon teacher's explanation relative to a complaint preferred against her by the School Committee was accepted as satisfactory, and a copy thereof was ordered to be sent to the committee for their information. It was decided to terminate the engagements of two teachers in consequence of irregularities in their methods of keeping the attendance registers and of falsifying the entries therein. On the recommendation of the Executive Committee plans and specifications were ordered to be prepared for painting school buildings at Tuturau. The Executive Committee recommended inter alia :— Mimihau : That plans and specifications be prepared and tenders invited for the erection of a residence of two rooms and a scullery. Gore : That an additional sum of L 5 be granted towards cost of work in connection with outbuildings and school grounds. — Adopted. The Inspector recommended certain passages of poetry for recitation for the next pupil teacher's examination. A circular from the Education Department intimating that the Board's scholarship holders might join the Lincoln Agricultural College was referred to the Executive Committee for consideration. Mr Matheson, in the absence of Mr Lumsden, brought forward a motion of which, notice was given at last meeting, instructing the Executive Committee to revise the Board's scale of salaries and report.— The motion was carried and referred to the Executive Committee. The following inspection reports were read : —

Over 30 inspection reports o£ various Schools were also read, and in 13 instances were referred to the Executive Commitee for special consideration. In the absence of Mr Maokintosh, Mr Bain moved, in accordance with notice given, that whenever the Board decided to make any alterations or additions to school buildings or residences, a copy of the plans and specifications be sent to the local committee for consideration, and that the previous resolution dealing with the subject be rescinded. — Carried.
