The s.s. Egmont sailed for Wellington and Sydney atl.3oyesterday. The schooner Wild Wave arrived inharbour yesterday morning from Pakihi; left that port on Thursday, Feb. 4; experienced light head winds throughout the passage. The barque Sokrates arrived in harbour yesterday from Dunedin; left on Saturday at 10 p.m., and experienced southerly winds during the passage. ,The barque brings a cargo of timber, and is consigned to Messrs Dalgety and Co The schooner Streamlet, Captain Donnelly,' arrived, in harbour yesterday, at 11 &.ui., from Picton. Left that port on Monday, Jan. 31; experienced light northerly winds till off Cape Campbell, when it came oq.a strong S.E. gale; put into Port Underwood ; since then had light head winds till arnyal._ The Streamlet hauled into the sciew-pile jetty, to discharge her cargo of timber.

ARRIVAL OF THE SHIP MATOAKA. This ship was signalled from the Heads at 6 a.ra.; yesterday, and arrived lu harbour at 11 am., after a passage of 8« days. The s.s. Moa took; the Health Ofjoen dtwnto the

ship, and on. arriyiug alongside they found that all on board were well. Soon after the vessel anchored, his Honor the Superintendent, Mr Marshman, Secretary for Railways; H. P, Murray-Aynsley, Colonel Packe, and others arrived, and made an inspection of the' ship, The single girls' compartment was a pattern of cleanliness, but we cannot say the same for that occupied by the single men. The cookiDg apparatus and water condenser had acted excellently during the voyage. The vessel comes out in medical charge of MrE.H. Marshall, M.D. The following is Captain Stevens' report of the voyage : The Matoaka left Graveseud on Nov. 12.

At 8 am. on the 13th, the pilot left off the Isle of Wight; had fresh N.E. wind as far as Madeira, when the wind changed to S.W. with rain, continuing two days; then got the N.E. trades which carried us to 6 deg. N,; after experiencing variable winds for two days, got the S.E. trades, and crossed the equator in lat, 29 30 W. on the2ind day out; was on the parallel of Rio on the 29th day out; sighted Gough's Island at midnight on Dec. 24, and passed the meridian' of the Cape of Good Hope on Dec 30, in lat. 42 deg. s. On Feb, 16 and 17 passed several icebergs in lat. 47 deg. S., and long. 102 deg. to 107 E. From lat. 50 deg. S, and long. 117 deg. E., had a succession of light N.E., and S.E. winds, accompanied with rain and fog which, retarded the voyage at least ten days. The Snares and Stewart's Island were passed on Feb. 5, but the fog prevented their being sighted. The Peninsula was made on Sunday last at noon, and the ship arrived at the heads as above. The Easting was run down in lat. 48 deg., passing south of Crozets and north of Kerguelan's land. Two births have occurred during the voyage. The following is a list of the Government immigrants :

New Zealand-North Island.-Fixed Lionr ok Sokes Island, Port Nicholson -information has been received that a light has been established on Somes Island, Port Nicholson, in the Province of Wellington. New Zealand. The lighthouse is an gonal iron tower, painted white, from which at an elevation of 74 feet a ove the level of high water, is exhibited a fixed light, showing wAtre in mid-channel, red on the western, and green on the eastern shore of the main entrance into the port. The light is intended as a leading light for vessels entering the port by the main channel of the entrance, and in clear weather should be seen from ; a distance of io miles, or 4 miles outside Pencarrow head light.
