RURAL SECTIONS CHOSEN.

We think it will be interesting to our readers to know the selections of land which have hitherto beeii made by the first body of land-purchasers. Mr. Brittan has kindJy supplied us with a copy of the official list of the sections chosen; and we purpose to devote a portion of our paper every week, to the publication of whole list—town as well as rural. The descriptions are, we understand, those given by the Surveyors, at the time the choices were made ; when the land is measured out to each individual, this description is to be adhered to as closely as possible.

No. 1. Maria Somes. Fifty acre section in the Lyttelton district, commencing at the end of Jackson Street, and proceeding in a north direction in the same line as Jackson Street for

chains, in an east direction for 40 chains, then proceeding south for chains,-and along the boundary of town to starting point, and numbered 1 cm the chief surveyor's map.

No. 2. Felix Wakeftekl. 100 acre section in Summer Bay, bounded on the north by the coast road, 70 chains; south by an accommodation road, 37 chains; east by the accommodation road round the base of the hills, 21 chains; and west by the Ghristchurch and Lyttelton Road, 37 chains; and numbered 2on the chief surveyor's map.

No. 3. Ann Boioen. 50 acre section, Papanui Wood, commencing at 3 miles 5 chains on the north road, fronting the road 12%, chains, and proceeding in a north-west direction 40 chains, south-west 12^" chains, and back southeast 40 chains to the starting point, and numbered 3 on the chief surveyor's map.

No. 4. Rev. E. 11. Kittoe. 50 acre section in the Christchurch district, frontage on the west 10 chains, the lagoon near the Ferry 12| chains, back to the east 28 chains, then in a north direction 23 chains 50links, to the reserved road round the lagoon, and back along the lagoon to the starting point, subject to a reserve of one-quarter acre for the Ferry-house, and numbered 4 on the chief surveyor's map.

No. 5. W.G.BHttan. 100 acre, section in the Christchurcli district, commencing at a point 2 miles 294 chains, on the north road, frontage on the road 25 chains north, then in a north-west direction 40 chains, south-west 25 chains, and south-east back to starting point 40 chains, and numbered 5 on the chief surveyor's map.

No. 6. C. Weatherby. 50 acre section in the Christchurcli district, commencing at the junction of the north road and town reserve, fronting along the road 1,740 links, then back in a west direction 40 chains, then south to the reserve road along the river Avon, 8 chains, and back along the reserved road to the startingpoint, and numbered 6 on the chief surveyor's map.

No. 7. J. J. Barnes. 50 acre section in the Ghristchurch district, frontage to the road along the river Avon 121 chains, back in a north-west direction 39i chains, then north-east 12J chains, then south-east back to starting point 41 chains.

No. 8. James Townsencl. 50 acre section in the Christchurch district, commencing at a point on the Heathcote-river road, south bank, 32 chains, south-west of trigonometrical station No. 14 ; back south, 47j chains, then west 12, chains, then north to the river road 35 chains, section frontage on the river road 18 chains, and numbered 8 on the chief surveyor's map.

No. 9. Henry Seivell. 50 acre section in the Christchurch district, commencing at the junction of the South Lincoln Road" and the town reserve, 12^ chains frontage along the road, back at a right angle in a north-west direction 40 chains, then east 11 chains 40 links to the south-west corner of Section No. 10, following the back of the said section 10J£ chains to the town reserve, and following along the town reserve to the starting point, and numbered 9 in the chief surveyor's map. No. 10. Henry Washourne. 50 acre section in the Cbristchurch district, commencing at the junction of the town reserve with Lincoln and Harewood road, frontage along the said road

14 chains 55 links, then south at a right angle 40 chains, then east at a right angle 10}£ chains to the town reserve, and back along the said reserve to the commencement 40 chains and 40 links, and numbered 10 on the chief surveyor's map. No. 11. W. W. Willoch. 100 acre section in the Christchurch district, commencing at a point on the road along the south bank of the Heathcote, 24/b chains distant from the Trigonometrical Station No. 12, continuing along the said road 29 chains, then back 44^ chains in a southerly direction, then east 25 chains, then north A%)4 chains to the starting point, and numbered 11 on the chief surveyor's map. No. 12. G. J. W. Russell. 500 acres in the Christchurch district, commencing at a point on the Harewood and Christchuvch road, half a chain from the south-west corner of the Messrs. Deans' reserve at Biccarton ; frontage 50 chains 50 links along the said road, the west boundary 120 chains back to the road along the Waimairi river, then continuing along that river to the reserved road at Messrs. Deans' south-west corner, back along said road to starting point, and numbered 12 on the chief surveyor's map. No. 13. Rev. G. R. Paulson. 50 acre section in the Ohristclmrcli district, oommencing at the junction of the Christchurch and Lyttelton road the town reserve ; frontage to the said road 12 chains 8S links, then south-west 40 chains, then north-west 12 chains 88 links, then back east 40 chains to the starting point, and numbered 13 on the chief surveyor's map. No. 14. C. /. Maunsp.ll. 100 acre section in the' Christchuvch district, commencing at 83 chains from the ferry across the Heatheote, along the Christchurcli and Lyttelton road, then south-west 49 chains to the road along- the river Heathcote, following* the said road 73 chainsup the river, then to the said Christchurch and Lyttelton road at a point 25 chains above the starting point, and numbered 14 ou the chief surveyor's map. No. 15. Lord Wharncliffe. 100 acres in the Christehurch district, commencing at a point on the Lyttelton and Christchurch road, 22^ chains, from trigonometrical station No. 14, along said road 56 chains, tlien at right angles from the road 40 chains in a north-east direction, then 13^ chains to the road round the estuary of the river Heathcote, then along that road south 49 chains back to the starting point. • No. 16. Henry Phillips. 100 acres in the Christchurch district, commencing on the road along tiie river Heathcote right bank at a point 32)4 chains from trigonomitrical station No. 10, froiu thence, following the course of the river road 86 chains, from thence 42 chains back to starting point, and numbered 16 on the chief surveyor's map. No. 17. John Tucker. 50 acres in the Christchurcli district, commencing at a point 51 chains from the south-west corner of reserve round the town of Christchurch along the south boundary of reserve; frontage on the road round the reserve, east from the above point, 1 \}£ chains, from that point running south 44 chains, then west llJ^ chains, and north back to the starting point 44 chains, and numbered 17 on the chief surveyor's map. No. 18. W. C. Fendall. 50 acres in the Christchurch district, commencing at a point on the Waimairi river road, distant 52 chains from Trigonometrical Station No. 9, thence due north to the Wairarapa river road, distant 30 chains 50 links, thence west along the Wairarapa river road 34 chains, thence clue south 17 chains 50 links, and back to starting point along the Waimairi river road 30£ chains, and numbered.lß on the chief surveyor's map.
