The Bank of Australasia has declared a dividend of 12£ per cent, and carries forward £15,000 to the reserve fund.
The Times considers the successful floating of the Board of Works loan indicates that things are not so bad in Victoria as financial critics allege. The Calcutta correspondent of the Daily News states that in view of the fall of silver which is alleged may be expected, the Indian Government is considering the propriety of reverting to the gold standard.
Advices received here from China state that in the recent engagement 8000 Mongolians rebels were killed besides 500 being burnt alive. The rebels captured 1800 of the imperial iroon^j of whom they : killed 800 and have afyrved for the tondbn South Metropolitan Gas Company. The Miners' Association has appealed to the Northumberland miners to support the Durham miners. The engineers in South Wale? and Monmouthshire have given notice ot their intention to go out on strike in order to resist the proposed reduction in their wanes. Their action will involve seventy thousand miners. The Times says Deeming is essentially a swindler, but only incidentally a murderer.
It is rumored that the police attribute the " Ripper murders " to a convict now in Portland gaol Ottawa, March 29. Mr A. M'Kenzie, ex-Premier of Canada, is in a critical condition.
