CENTRAL BULLER JOCKEY CLUB.
Mace Meeting. (Feom an occasional Cobbekpondent.) The races, which came off on Boxirg Day at Mr J. Ribefc's, proved a decided success, and reflect great credit on the newly formed Club, and on the energy and good management of the Stewards. The gathering, though large, would have been much greater had the weather been more favourable previous to the meeting, the swollen rivers deterring a good many from attending. However, the race day n-as all that could be wished, and tfce youth, beauty, and fashion, of Hampden, congregated on the grand stand, and were charmed by the enlivening strains of Mr Diger's cornopean, while indulging in a little mild flirtation with their attendant swains. S&ittl'es were patronised by the more muscular Christian^ among the cnwd, while " Aunt Sally *"was a host in herself, being decidedly the most sought after lady on the conrse, and her " Old Man " created roars of laugffter' by his eccentricities. All present seemed to en» joy themselves thoroughly, and it is to be hoped that this is but tho commences ment of a series of meeting* tending to promote good humour and harmony among the residents of the district, and unite us in closer contact with oar neighbours. At the Eace Ball, the "light fantastic toe " business was performed with commendable spirit and perseverance, and broad daylight found the half* wearied but undaunted revellers footing it away merrily. At the water holes Rustic fell, and Kiwi taking second place, a capital race to the finish between him and Half«casfce, the latter winning by a length. Hampden Httbdi/e Race. Mr Hagen's Happy Jack (Hagao)^^^B Mr 1). James' Young Tow ton (J^^^f -greaves) ... jl^^H Young Towlon having come fegrwH the race waa a sift to Happy Jack. Hack Race. . J Mr Smith's Dandy 1 Mr Warm's Rustic ,„ ... ... 2 Mr Hagan'a Omaka 0 Mr Lowick's Sam Slick ... ... 0 Cleverly won by Pandy. DISTEICT PtATE. M"r Ribet { s Nelly 1 Mr James' Kiwi ,„ 2 Dandy and Matakitaki also ran. It was the best contested race of the meeting, the three first named horses running close all through. Coming to the straight, Nelly came to the front and won. Pony Race. Mr Hagan's Omaka ... , „, 1 Mrßibota' Mosquito ... .„ .... 2 Mr Rowo's and Mr poddard's ponies also ran, the race was hotly contested by Omaka and Mosquito-— the judge at the finish deciding it a dead heat. Tlie JSlovel Raoe was the occasion of much amusement, and Mr Hibet's Duke pulled off tho stake.
