THE GENERAL ELECTION.

Auckland, Wednesday. Sir George Grey was returned for City East unopposed. Sir Maurice O'Rorke addressed, the electors of Manukau last night, and got a vote of confidence. Mr Gannon addressed the electors of the Bay of Islands last Monday night. He enunciated no policy. He received a vote of thanks. A meeting of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners was held last evening. The candidates who replied in the affirmative to the question of the Trades and Labor Council were invited to attend. Sir George Grey, Messrs DeLautour, Thompson, Dargaville, and Farnall addressed the meeting. A resolution was passed expressive of confidence in Sir George Grey as the leader of the Liberal party, and pledging the meeting to return candidates favorable to his programme. Apologies were read from Messrs Seymour George, and Tole. Mr Frank Lawry addressed tbe electors of Manukau at Panmure this evening, and received a vote of confidence. He said he was a follower of Sir George Grey. At the Coromandel nomination to-day the show of hands was — Cadman, 48; Brodie, 15. Hamilton, Wednesday. Mr J. B. Whjte was returned unopposed for Waikato to-day. Tauranoaj Wednesday. Messrs Q. B. Morriß and W. Kelly were nominated. The show of hands was in favor of the former, and a poll was demanded.

Mr Pilliet addressed a crowded meeting of Staumore electors at Knight's Town last evening, and explained his action in Parliament.. On a motion that the explanation was satisfactory the meeting was about equally divided. The meeting was a noisy one, and some eggs were thrown at a speaker who announced that ho was not a candidate. The Hon. E. Richardson was returned unopposed for Kaiapoi, and Mr E. Wakefield for Leeston. At Stanmore the nominations and show of hands resulted as follows : — D. Recce, 66 ; J. M.
