Sydney, June 17. The weather cleared up for ths match England vN S Walos. About 20,000 were present. The ground was in a bad state, the centre being almost a bog. The English team comprised — Bnck, Maatilli ; !'s, Doran, Bucker, Nicholls, Adamson ; 's, Mullineux, Cookson ; forwards, Stout, arman, M'Gowan, Gibson, Betson, Grey, Ayresmith, Francomb. N S Wales — Back, Row : f s Spragg, Shortland, White ; $ 's, Ward. O'Donnell j £'s Boyd; forwards, Skeefc, Kelly, Davis, Wheeler, Gardner, Marks, Webbellis. The game was. a capital one, but the end of the first spell made it manifest that there was lack of condition -on the part of the Englishmen. Their passing and line work were excellent, while the forwards displayed fine dribbling. They drew first blood off the mark by Cookson, which Marbelli obtained a goal from. In the second spell N S Wales assumed the aggressive and kept the visitors on the defensive throughout. Ward, an exNew Zealander, was the hero of the local team. The forward play of the locals at times was brilliant, but on the. whole was patchy. Gardner passed to Ward in the visitor's 25's. and the New Zealander cleverly ran in and secured a try. Spagg, failed to convert a difficult angle. Jusb before time the English made a good passing rush, bub Ayresmibh was overtaken jusb in time to prevent a try. The result was England 4 points, New South Wales 3.
