THE SCHOOL.
— ♦ Yesterday afternoon the prizes were presented at the school-house by Mr J. G. Cobbe, the chairman of the committee, to the scholars of each standard who bad written the best essay on the recent picnic to Wanganui. Mr Cobbe, in making the presentation, referred in congratulatory terms to the success of the head-master (Mr J. C. Hill) and teaching staff, at the recent examination, the passes throughout the school being of the remarkably high percentage of 93. The Rev. Innes Jones also spoke eulogising the services of Mr Hill, and impressing upon the children the necessity of using their powers of observation as well as studying hard. The prizewinners are as follows : — District High School.— Miss L. Hill, prize " Tennyson's Poems." Standard Vl.—-E. P. Prior, " Life of Wallace." Standard V.— W. Heald, " Brave Deeds of Youthful Heroes." Standard IV A. Murray, " John Halifax, Gentleman." Standard 111. — F. Coles, "Ben Hur."
